Information systems, sociomaterial practices and the emergence of environmental management infrastructures

Information systems are an integral part of environmental management infrastructures – complex assemblages social and technical artifacts, human actors sociomaterial routines enacted in the pursuit sustainability outcomes. We analyse case infrastructure developed around a ‘vessel system’ by South Australian regulator between 2004 2013. The goal this was to sustain water quality controlling discharge ‘greywater’ from vessels on Australia’s inland waters. conceptualise infrastructure, information they encompass, as temporally emergent outcome agents’ attempts extend their practice particular direction, how that trajectory emergence is shaped intersection agencies, material performances disciplinary practices.
